Who is Nectar?
Born and raised in Manhattan, Nectar’s owner, Jenny Wonderling, had married one of the founding partners of Bubby’s restaurant, soon after it’s opening. After helping to build this downtown Tribeca landmark, she then moved Upstate in 2001 as a single mother with her two eldest children, now fifteen and seventeen. Alternately writing freelance articles and editing a book, she had just finished restoring her 1860’s farmhouse with the help of her two young sons, family and friends before opening Nectar. Having personally sourced out building materials and design elements that worked harmoniously with the original structures of her home— bridging past and present—in that process she quietly acknowledged her passion for design. As the daughter of a stylist-clothing designer-photographer mother, and fashion photographer stepfather, and having grown up seeped in the New York design world, Wonderling had been coddled to create things of beauty from birth.
Now remarried to Bristlecone Restoration’s owner Karsten Engel, (www.bristleconerestoration.com)Jenny spends her days at Nectar with their new baby Liam in tow, and writing when she can steal the time between corralling a toddler and teenagers, running a business and a household with Karsten. “But none of it would be possible,” Jenny says gratefully, “without the help of the wonderful staff of multifaceted, creative and wise women at Nectar with whom baby Liam and I get to share our days. On any given morning or afternoon, I get to co-create the magic that is Nectar with Victoria, Emma, Garland, Lindsey, and Yetzia, and who make the experience of being a working mother one that feels so supported and fun.” Nectar is buzzing with visitors who love all that the store has to offer. And with each new visitor, there is a story…
